Welcome to the Examination and Assessment information area of our website. This page contains details about what External Examinations or Assessments are taken by each year group at the college and tips on revision and useful links to revision websites.
All external examinations and assessments are set by the Department of Education in conjunction with the Examination governing bodies and are marked by external moderators.
Futures Community College would like to emphasise the importance of Mock GCSE examinations as, for any reason, students are unable to sit their actual exams, then any grades allocated will be based on their mock exam papers.
Internal assessments are held to enable the teacher and the college to provide an up to date assessment of the student’s level of understanding of the subject and for the students to understand the exam process. All internal assessments are marked by their respective teacher.
The college adopts the National arrangements for all examinations and these must be strictly adhered to. Under no circumstances must mobile phones be brought into the examination hall. Students MUST wear full school uniform, black trainers or shoes to be worn only and female students MUST not wear footless tights or leggings.
Students must come to each examination / assessment with the correct equipment as follows:
• Clear pencil case / bag
• Pens/pencil/ruler/sharpener and eraser
• A calculator for Maths and Science
Year 7
• Year 7 students sit their Progress Assessments in all subjects Monday 10th May 2010 – Friday 14th May 2010
Year 8• Year 8 students sit their Progress Assessments in all subjects Tuesday 29th June 2010 - Friday 2nd July 2010
Year 9
• Year 9 students information coming soon.
• Year 9 students sit their actual GCSE Science Modular exams on the following dates: 24th June 2010
• Year 9 students sit their Optional exams on 20th April 2010 - Friday 23rd April 2010

• Year 10 students sit their actual GCSE Science Modular exams on Friday 20th November 2009 and Friday 5th March 2010
• Year 10 Progress exams will take place Monday 23rd November 2009 – Friday 27th November 2009
• Year 10 Mock GCSE exams will take place Monday 8th March 2010 – Friday 12th March 2010
Year 11
• The Year 11 students will sit their GCSE Mathematics Linear exams on Thursday 5th November 2009 and Tuesday 10th November 2009
• The GCSE English Language re-sits will take place on Monday 9th November 2009
• The GCSE Science re-sits will take place on Friday 20th November 2009
• The GCSE Additional Science exams for Year 11 will be held on the following dates: Monday 16th November 2009; Wednesday 18th November 2009; Wednesday 3rd March 2010 and Thursday 4th March 2010
• The GCSE Applied Science exam for Year 11 will be held on Thursday 14th January 2010
• The GCSE Maths Modular exam for Year 11 will take place on Tuesday 2nd March 2010
• Year 11 Progress exams will take place Monday 23rd November 2009 – Friday 27th November 2009
• Year 11 Mock GCSE exams will take place Monday 8th March 2010 – Friday 12th March 2010

Summer 2009 GCSE Examinations
• The 2010 GCSE Summer Exam season will start Monday 19th April 2010 – Monday 29th June 2010
• Dates for practical Subjects such as Drama, Physical Education, Geography Orals and Modern Foreign Language Orals have still to be confirmed. This page will be updated as soon as the exam boards release these dates.
